Apple Messages / iMessage on my phone was a pain in the eye…
The white-on-green color scheme for outgoing SMS in Apple’s Messages app for iOS is low contrast and thus painful for my form of colorblindness to try to use for very long.
I first looked for ways to change the color of the message bubbles. Everything in blogs was a kludge with a sketchy app. Then I looked for ways to change the colors in iMessage bubbles via system settings.
Settings > Accessibility > Display and Text Size
Toggle on Increase Contrast. The outgoing bubble background is now a darker green (remember I’m red/green colorblind, so that’s my best guess) and WAY more comfortable on my eyes.
There’s also an Invert Colors but whether it’s smart or legacy inversion (both options are available), it’s like living in Bizarro World. It doesn’t really make a difference in the bubble colors, but all the darg backgrounds became light and picking a new wallpaper was weird because I had to pick one with a lot of white to get a dark background. It’s more like letting my clock fall back to opposite-day permanently. It’s too weird for me. But increasing contrast… Chef’s kiss. Mwah!
