Last week, you may have noticed I posted about how I removed the futon couch from my office, which completely opened up the floor plan. That set off a manic couple of days of measuring, sketching, browsing, and generally trying to figure out the Ultimate Home Office Floorplan.

It didn’t happen… yet.
What’s the plan, Stan?
Step 1: Map it out and order some new items.
Step 2: While I wait for those items, get ruthless about decluttering my desk, drawers, shelves, closet, and other flat surfaces.
Step 3: Reorganize the stuff I’m keeping so I can optimize use of the shelf/table space I’m keeping.
Step 4: Remove the current desk, the file cabinet, the folding table, a small bookshelf, and a small shelving unit, using my two teenage boys to help move the heavier bits to the garage.
Step 5: Construct two Ikea tables as new desks, and put them in an L shape catty-cornered with the entry door. Put the couch against the wall opposite the TV, so it elongates the L.
Step 6: Rearrange all my equipment to take best advantage of the new workspace.
Step 7: ???
Step 8: Profit!
When will it be done?
It will be at least 90% done in a week or so. I may need to order a couple more pieces once I have seen how everything else fits together and I commissioned a piece of art in mid-2022 that should arrive this month. Comics artist David Reddick and I will reveal the piece when it’s done.

Once it’s all done, nice and organized, I will take and share photos to prove that my home office once looked that awesome. Should be around January 9th or 16th for everything but the incorporation of the new art.
