On the good side… Got through Hiring Manager and Recruiter screens with one start-up and it looks like I am headed toward a full interview round. I have a first call with another start-up later this week.
On the weird side… In the last two weeks I have been approached by multiple recruiters about contract roles which closed within hours of contact.
I can understand why. LinkedIn provides competitive intelligence if you have a pro account, which I do. Since all the tech layoffs, I’m seeing applicant numbers in the hundreds for some roles when it used to be a few dozen at most.
And this is JUST the applications LinkedIn is tracking. If the role came in through an agency that doesn’t have an exclusive, assume there are a dozen or more trying to throw dozens of applicants at it. You think they’re resting all their hopes and dreams on you getting it? Nope, you’re cannon fodder. You’re a grunt they’re sending to charge the machine gun nest. And when the HR system where all these agencies submit their candidates hits a limit, the role closes.
In some cases these openings are closing within a couple of days, even hours, because all the layoffs mean there’s a big pool of talent that needs to get a new role and they’re not in a position to be picky. Basically, it’s ducks as far as the eye can see.
For the contract roles where recruiters have contacted me, I find that if recruiters can’t submit my information on the same day, they are no longer interested. I don’t know if the window is as short with the listed contracts.
