Job Hunt Diary – Week 4 – Day 4

ME: “Well, brain. It’s 11 p.m. Seems like a good time to go to sleep.”

MY BRAIN: “Seems like a good time to REHASH EVERYTHING YOU SAID IN YOUR INTERVIEWS TODAY!”

Turned down a recruiter. Upon further investigation, their product didn’t inspire me. It had a market need and met it, but there was nothing I immediately liked about it.

Then it was three interviews to finish up with two start-ups.

I think my interviews went well, but at the end, both companies were like “you’ll hear back tomorrow or Monday.” And that had me spooked as I’m wondering if I’ll be able to get the interviews I’ve agreed to done in 2 more weeks. I originally hoped to have all interviews completed by the 18th, offers in hand by the 25th, and make a decision by Monday the 28th. And it may push a few days past that.

I made sure to remind them that there wasn’t a rush on the offer as I was only about halfway through my 3-week period of interviewing (plus another week for final offers and consideration). But I felt like after I said it, that turned a great chat sour.

But I dunno, that’s me. I want to be fair to everyone and to set realistic expectations.

Also, I thought I hemmed and hawed about developer communities I participate in… and I drew a blank, forgetting I was on the tech advisory board for a school district and gave a talk on tech careers to four classes of 9th graders just this Tuesday, spinning my CascadiaJS involvement, online groups I’m in… I need to be ready for that again.
